Why May is the Perfect Month to Visit Lucksall

While most people usually wait for summer to go on a staycation, May is actually the best-kept secret. The British countryside is blooming, the sun is finally starting to peek through, and you beat the summer rush!

Spanning over 23 acres, with 200 acres of woodland and the River Wye nearby, Lucksall Park is the perfect holiday destination for a May Bank Holiday getaway, from families looking to entertain the kids to couples looking for a restful retreat away from everyday life.

Holiday Homes on the River Wye

There is something magical about the River Wye in May. As spring settles, the water runs clear, and the riverbanks come alive. It’s the perfect time to find a quiet spot and watch for kingfishers or butterflies among the wildflowers.

Whether you seek a peaceful escape or a bank holiday adventure, the river is the heart of the Lucksall experience.

Take to the Water

The Wye Valley is famous for canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding, with May’s mild weather ideal for water activities.

With our on-site launch point, guests have easy access straight to the river. Whether you’re an avid canoeist with your own gear or need to rent some from Hereford Canoe Hire, you’ll be paddling away in no time. Based at Lucksall, you have the chance for special river trips to really soak up the location (book at herefordcanoehire.com).

Riverside Bar and Eatery

After taking on the local waters, unwind at our Riverside Bar and Eatery by the river launch with drinks and food. From afternoon ice creams and a refreshing drink after a day in the sun to evening meals and family nights out, the riverside restaurant is the perfect place to take in the countryside without the intense heat of the summer sun!

For the Avid Angler

Enjoy fishing for barbel and chub from our wooden pegs in peaceful surroundings. Let us know if you plan on fishing, and we can station you near a fishing peg! A friendly reminder that a rod permit is required (easily available from Reception for the bank opposite our holiday park, or from Hereford Angling).

Exploring the Valley

Spring is all about fresh starts and taking it slow – which is exactly what you’ll be doing at Lucksall. Step directly from the park onto the scenic Wye Valley Walk for leisurely walks that let you soak in the fresh air and stunning surroundings. Take your time with no set schedule. Perhaps wander down to the local pub for a relaxing drink in the sunshine or an evening stroll through the neighbouring woodlands as the sun begins to set.

It’s all about unwinding, forgetting the rush of daily life, and simply savouring the calm and beauty of the countryside in full spring bloom.

A May Bank Holiday Weekend Spent Right

Now we know what spring at Lucksall offers, you need to decide the type of getaway you want.

Whether you’re making the most of the Early May Bank Holiday, Spring Bank Holiday, or a week-long trip in the middle of May, there are plenty of options for how to holiday.

Camping Trip

The first trip of the year feels unlike any other, so why not spend it camping in the gorgeous Herefordshire countryside? The May Bank Holidays are the perfect time to get the camping gear out and enjoy the later nights and sunny spells. Our heated toilet and shower facilities make it easy, even if the nights are still a bit crisp. Additionally (for anyone thinking logistics), every camper has access to 3 undercover washing up facilities and a laundry room. So, while you may be braving the countryside, there’s still a sense of home comforts!

Glamping Break

You want the view but without the tent pegs? Glamping at Lucksall is the perfect middle ground for those who want to stay warm and cosy in a pod whilst listening to the harmonies of our park’s birdsong.

Whether it’s a couple’s pod, family hut or spacious Pavilion, our glamping spots are a fabulous way to spend the May Bank Holidays.

Caravans and Motorhomes

From seasonal pitches to weekend spots, the May Bank Holiday could not be a better excuse to take a trip to the Herefordshire countryside with your portable home. Our hard-standing pitches are for all year round, some benefitting from being fully serviced for you to recharge and relax.

Don’t Wait for Summer to Enjoy the Great Outdoors

May is a short window of time when the park is at its lushest and quietest. With everyone off work and the kids off school, bank holidays fill up fast! If you want to make the most of the May Bank Holidays – sipping coffee by the Wye and soaking up the sun on a canoe – grab your spot before the bank holidays are fully booked.
